HOW TO GET OUT OF A RUT

The award for longest and craziest year hands down goes to 2020. I don’t know about you, but this year has been draining for me. Adjusting to working from home, watching the news, not seeing my friends/family, and almost being scared to go out has tested my happiness. But throughout this year, I’ve learned about myself and how to get out of that 2020 funk. There are days where I feel down but I always tell myself that “this too shall pass.” Below are some tips that have helped me this year.

+Meditate/Stretch - Doing this always calms my mind. I put on my favorite '“chill” playlist, clear my mind, and stretch. It doesn’t have to be painful stretching just try to do things that feel good for your body. Even doing a neck stretch will release some tension.

+Do something creative - Doing something creative is a part of my job, so this one is a must for me. Whether it’s creating photos, blog posts, or brainstorming video ideas. Setting a goal on a project and executing it, makes me feel productive. Also, it just feels good to finish something and to see your final product!

+Self care - This can range from a face mask to a quiet night drinking wine and watching your favorite movie! It’s ok to do nothing and not feel guilty about it.

+Bust a move - of course, dancing will always be my answer. But I have to shout out to my friend Jayda for this tip. A couple of years ago I was in a weird space and told her about it. One of the tips she told me was to dance. I thought it was odd at first because I’m a dancer, but it feels d*mn good. I’ve found that putting on music and just letting the moves flow through feels relieving. Or even putting on a good playlist while I put away laundry puts me in a good mood.

+ Go on a morning walk - My boyfriend, Josh, is the reason for this tip. One day he was talking about resetting his circadian clock (A circadian rhythm is a natural, internal process that regulates the sleep-wake cycle and repeats on each rotation of the Earth roughly every 24 hours). One way to do that is to go on a walk every morning. It takes a little bit of time to get used to it, but it helps start my day off right. Also, I thought Josh was crazy talking about the circadian clock. This a very rare time he is right ;)

+Journal or talk about it - I think it’s important and strong for anyone to talk about their feelings. Being open and honest with myself helps me deal with what I’m feeling. It’s ok to be sad but it’s also ok to be happy when the whole world isn’t. Usually, I talk to my boyfriend and friends/family. Let it all out!

I do my best to remain grateful. Looking at the positive side of things can do wonders. Sending my love to all of you!
